Blogs

My main blog is Pandammonia, and it is really just my ramblings. I like to think it's evolved since I started in December 2003 from an I-did-this diary to one containing things like my take on events, my ideas, my thoughts and opinions, and, of course, what I did. It's not updated as frequently as it used to be, but it's certainly not a dead blog.

My second blog is My Books. It started off as a way of keeping a record of what books I have read, but now I also have an online catalogue of my books (see my Reading page). I don't update this one very often - mainly because I never seem to get round to it, but I am trying to update it more frequently, along with writing reviews for each book.

Other blogs

I read various blogs - usually as a way to procrastinate. The ones I check most frequently are listed below for my convenience.

An amateur gets it right Thu, 20 Nov 2008 21:56:00 +0000

We not infrequently point out the gaffes of non-linguists who misuse linguistic terminology and concepts, so I'm pleased for once to have an example of the opposite type, an instance in which a non-linguist has correctly used a technical term from linguistics. In his novel Bad Business at p. 302, Robert B. Parker writes: "You fucking…

Norfolk Coastal Path…Cley to Sheringham Wed, 19 Nov 2008 22:34:52 +0000

To me nothing beats a day along the coast in the winter. I love to feel the wind through my hair and hear the crashing of the waves. It blows the cob webs away and makes me feel happy and alive. Even nicer when you can share it with someone special too  We finished the day off…

The laptop breaks. Wed, 19 Nov 2008 10:17:07 +0000

I shake it angrily, before giving it a bash. This is not good news. Unfortunately, when I ordered the thing, I plumped for the cheapest one on the Internet, figuring that I wouldn’t really use it much. This was a bit like Dylan Thomas wandering into his local pub and ordering ‘just a half’. I am…

More Questions on the Path to Combinatory Python 2008-11-20T03:38:30Z

I was just thinking yesterday that I need to get back to the posts I was intending to make after my initial post of the month, Two Fun(ctional) Questions. Then tonight Eric Florenzano made an excellent post on Lambda Calculus…

Great review of Chinese Democracy Thu, 20 Nov 2008 16:02:14 +0000

The best review I have read for a long time… Chinese Democracy reviewed by Chuck Klosterman. The following section (the intro) is hilarious. Comparing the review with the hero of Grizzly man…. Reviewing Chinese Democracy is not like reviewing music. It’s more like reviewing a unicorn. Should I primarily be blown away that…

Not so much a rant… Sat, 09 Aug 2008 16:47:42 +0000

as a venting; if I don’t direct my anger, irritation and frustration into some other channel, there’s a very good chance I’ll put my fist through my computer screen. And that wouldn’t be good - its new, shiny and undeserving, and it would just be the modern equivalent of shooting the messenger. No, my wrath is…

Knitting Thu, 20 Nov 2008 21:17:47 GMT

Have been knitting up a storm, and exploring crochet too. Lots of hats and mittens, and lots of corresponding LJ entries/pictures. If you're interested, but can't see them, comment and I'll add you to the relevant filter - it's only filtered because some people get bored by that kind of thing. Also, some of you don't appear to be on Ravelry who'd pr…

It's Saturday night, and am I out having fun? Am I painting the town red? No. Not even beige. I'm studying. Or I was. Alternatively, I might just be looking at web pages related to Planetary Science. Lego Orrery - how neat is that? If there is anyone else reading this who is not out partying, ask me planetary science quest…
